Temperance

I am sorry for the delay (and lack of World Readings so far) this month. I made a big life decision at the end of last month that has me in total upheaval mode until mid-January or so.

We are currently under the astrological sun sign of Sagittarius (through December 22) which corresponds to Temperance in the tarot. Temperance is a time for: consolidation, moderation, avoiding excess, compromise, balance, equilibrium, harmony, centered, combination, joining with others, the “right mix”. Temperance indicates that compromise and cooperation are vital components for balance at this time. You should try new things while maintaining present security.

We are also under the 9 of Wands (defensive, assuming ill, expecting difficulty) until December 12, then we move into the 10 of Wands (December 12 – 22). The 10 of Wands is burden, responsibility and being unable to say “no”. Thankfully, on the heels of the 10 of Wands, we move into Capricorn and the 2 of Coins on the 23rd. The Devil is the card of Capricorn, and it can indicate a break from the spiritual through overindulging the senses (eating too much, drinking too much, smoking too much, max’ing out the credit cards… you get the idea). The 2 of Coins kicks off Capricorn (December 23 – 31). It is material and physical balance. It can literally mean balancing the checkbook (makes sense around the holidays) as well as balancing work/life. It can’t be all work and no play (or vice versa).

Mercury goes direct today (December 13), and there is often quite a bit of mechanical, transportation and communication chaos during the end phase of this planet’s retrograde. I’ve already dealt with its effects way too much today (communication break down with not 1, not 2 but three people, and SEVERAL friends have complained about car problems –  just today!). I have to my happy zen place before I got nuts!

I am moving to Hawai’i in the middle of January, so I’m most assuredly dealing with that pesky 10 of Wands right now. Too much to do in too little time. I will be working on an organic farm on the Big Island in exchange for food and lodging. Hawai’i has always felt like home to me (as it does to many, many people), and I’ve been wanting to move there for quite some time. The opportunity arose, and we’re jumping on it now! I hope to study Ho’omana (also known as Huna) with a Kahuna (a Hawaiian shaman).

2012 is quickly approaching, and I know there are a lot of people who have questions about what’s to come next year. Even in the middle of the move, I’m still working on card readings. I apologize for the lack of reading last week. It was a U.S. holiday week, and I was looking for work because, unfortunately, my passion (writing and reading tarot cards) doesn’t pay the bills. (You could help by donating any amount through this website – bottom left.)

In the reading from two weeks ago (November 14th), we saw many money matters (three of the 4 cards were from the suit of Coins). Wall Street stocks fell (surprised?) and “France and Germany on Wednesday over whether the European Central Bank should intervene more forcefully to halt the euro zone’s accelerating debt crisis after modest bond purchases failed to calm markets.”  There’s a lot of “behind-the-scenes” money talk that the public is not privy to. Big banking is looking at numbers and not people.

On to this week’s World Reading (conducted on Sunday, November 27th during my Sunday prayer/meditation). We may have to undergo a crisis to find out who our true friends are. But we WILL find out. Judgment gives us a fresh start and the 3 of Wands rallies the troops and tries to get everybody on board for a collective vision of the future. The Queen of Coins is applies her material power to the cause. The Tower shows a crisis, but it needn’t be life-altering (though with Judgement in the reading, it could be life-changing for many).

Judgment makes peace with a person or situation.  This card is an indication that it’s time for a rebirth while healing old wounds.  Face yourself, and let go of those thing that no longer renew your spirit.  Judgment is the knowledge to understand when it’s time to make a change and acting on that knowledge.

Queen of Coins

CARD 2: Queen of Pentacles

As a person…

Birth dates: December 12 – January 9 Often indicates a mature earth sign female (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Attributes: Mature woman, any eye color, black or white hair, mature woman

This queen is applying her material influence to gain a particular outcome. She may be very busy attempting to acquire, gain (and even hoard?). She, like all of the earth signs, can be a strong, immovable force to be reckoned with.

Foresight

Exploration:  venturing into the unknown, expanding horizons

Leadership:  rallying troops, managing others, setting an example

Opportunity, and success, is at hand.  You will need to use your knowledge and skill for achievement of goals – a partner, or teammate, could give you the help that you need.

The Tower

CARD 4:  The Tower

Chaos

Sudden change, chaos, crisis, upheaval, restructuring
Anger, release, explosion, emotional outburst
Downfall, down turn in fortune, humbling, blow to the ego

The Tower indicates information or events that have “rocked your world” off balance a bit. It could show that a rapid, life-changing situation is at hand. The Tower could seem like a quick, shocking transformation that seemingly comes out of nowhere.

In last week’s reading we saw the Devil with the Lovers, 8 of Wands and 2 of Coins. This one is quite easily interpreted. The Devil is becoming obsessed or enslaved by the material world (money). The Lovers is making a choice, and the 8 of Wands denotes the choice is made quickly. The 2 of Coins is making it all balance. We saw two world leaders in the European Union leave their posts within the past couple of weeks due to economic issues (Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, who happens to be a Gemini/The Lovers, as well as Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi). Both Prime Ministers were removed/replaced due to economic issues (i.e. the accounts weren’t balancing).  The change was quick especially by government standards.

On to this week’s World Reading (which AGAIN is all about money, money, money). I know I will discuss it in next week’s entry, but I would like to point out that this week doesn’t look good for world economy. There are money money concerns (5 of Coins), and it would appear that while people should be working together to fix the problem (3 of Coins), there will be others who are trying to take advantage of the current financial situations (7 of Swords) even going so far as to be under-handed. Either way, change is coming (by way of the Knight of Coins), and it may not be in everybody’s best interest based on the other cards in the reading.

5 of Coins

Worry

Ill Health:  tired, run-down, abusing the body or mind
Rejection:  no support, exclusion, disapproval

Indication of financial woes, money worries, and/or loss of income.  You must look beyond the material world and find your spiritual center.  Know that this struggle can only be temporary.

Deceit

As a person: Aquarius - February 9 – 19

Avoidance:  shirking responsibility, sneaking off
Dishonor:  being two-faced, lying, stealing, having a shameful secret, covering your tracks

It’s time to appease the opposition without sacrificing integrity.  The truth must be faced no matter the outcome; otherwise, it will only get worse.  Indication of someone who wants to go it alone, have their independence away from prying eyes.

Card 3: 3 of Coins

Production

As a person: Capricorn - January 1 – 9

Teamwork:  combining effort, cooperation
Preparation:  planning, organizing, scheduling
Ability:  competence, achieving goals, up to the task

You show great skill, ability and talent.  Indicates recognition for abilities.  Involves activities within an organization or group of some sort. 

Knight of Coins

Card 4: Knight of Coins

As a person…

Birth dates: April 11 – May 10 (usually indicates a young earth sign: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Attributes: Any eye color, black or white hair, young person

Positive:  cautious, thorough, realistic, hardworking, practical, steady, reliable, empathetic

Negative:  stupid, stubborn, obsessive, pessimistic, unadventurous, selfish, material

This person will take the time to do a good job while empathizing with those less fortunate.  He probably needs constant motivation otherwise he can become subdued and waste his talents.  This person usually has a love for animals and nature.

Knights are ‘activators’ or changes. The Knight of Coins usually brings about changes in our physical and material state of affairs (this includes our bodies, our homes, our jobs, our bank accounts, etc.).

Unfortunately, this reading for the week of 11/7/11 got lost in the shuffle.  I apologize that it didn’t show up until a week (too) later. It makes it more difficult for me to tie into current events when they are no longer current!

In last week’s reading we saw two cards from the suit of Wands. They both happen to fall under the astrological sun sign of Leo which happens to be Barack Obama’s birth period (he is the 6 of Wands).  There has been a lot going on with the EU in regard to problems and bailouts in Greece.  George Papandreou stood up to the EU (and stood up for the people of Greece) by calling for a referendum (a vote by the people to decide if they wanted the EU plan). This was his 7 of Wands moment where he was digging in for the battle (which he ultimately lost). The Knight of Cups brings changes to relationships. When Papandreou called for the referendum, his relationships changed in a big way (he was voted out of office). As the week before, the Queen of Swords is always seeking what is just and fair (when she’s not being unjust and unfair herself), and the 6 of Wands is feeling good about a job well done and being recognized for good work (again, this is Barack Obama’s birth card).

The historical meaning of Lovers represents “choice” where the choice is often associated with people or relationships in our lives.  The Lovers also represents a relationship based on deep love and values.  A choice may need to be made, or a path chosen, regarding this relationship.  It’s a sign that it’s time to choose what the heart and mind dictate, and sign on for the long haul.

Card 3:  8 of Wands

Carpe Diem

As a person: Sagittarius November 23–December 2

Action:  making your move, plans into action
Completion:  conclusion, grand finale
Message:  receiving news, learning, discovering truth

There will be acceleration in your affairs.  Declare yourself!  Pay attention because you may be receiving a message.  You may feel caught in a whirlwind, but the dust will settle soon.

I then discuss the results in the following week’s reading. While conducted the actual reading on Sunday, October 30th, I haven’t been able to get the results out until today (looking for work is hard work!).

In last week’s reading we saw the Ace of Cups, the King of Cups, the 9 of Coins and the Queen of Swords. As a whole, it can be looked upon as a new-found spiritual enlightenment that is starting to permeate the recesses of the world. Love and understanding are more powerful than money. The 9 of Wands tells us that we must go it alone either because we aren’t receiving the help we need from outside or because the answers can only be found within, and the Queen of Swords is always seeking what is just and fair (when she’s not being unjust and unfair herself). She also shows up again in this week’s reading!

6 of Cups: Childhood, interaction with a child, seeing the world with wonder and joy

We are currently in the astrological sign of Scorpio which covers the Death card in the tarot. Death is transition and change (usually with a little pain thrown in for good measure). We are going through things that can’t be avoided. A snake must shed its skin to continue to grow. Shedding is itchy and uncomfortable, and when completed, the skin underneath is tender to the touch for a bit, but it’s also shiny and new.  After a short while, the snake is once again comfortable until it must go through another shed. This is the cycle of life, and transition is a natural part of it.

We’ve just come through the 5 of Cups (October 23 - November 1). November 2nd through the 11th is the time of the 6 of Cups. It denotes interaction with someone(s) from the past, in our childhood. It also has the element of interacting with a child or somebody with childlike qualities (they see the world with joy and wonder and a sense of naïveté). The keyword for the 6 of Cups is “Child”.

November 12th through the 22nd is the time of the 7 of Cups. I like to call this card the “emotional procrastination card”.  In the picture, you see a man who is lost in the wonderment of seven cups in front of him that are all filled with amazing things. He knows that he must deal with a situation (or several); however, he’s allowing himself to procrastinate. Decisions that need to be made could be painful, so he gets lost in the moment and (temporarily) doesn’t deal with them.

After the 7 of Cups, the sun moves into Sagittarius, and Temperance takes us through December until a couple of days before Christmas. Temperance is moderation and bringing all elements into play. In many modern tarot decks Temperance is referred to as “Art”. I like the analogy because you can have paint, palette, canvas, easel and artist. Separately, they aren’t considered art; however, bring all of those elements together, and art is created. That is the card of Temperance.

During the first decan of Sagittarius, we are under the 8 of Wands until the beginning of December. The end of November/8 of Wands is a time when you feel things “speed up”. There will be an increase in tempo and acceleration in affairs. It may even feel as if you’re caught in a whirlwind. Just know that the dust will settle, and everything will be where it’s supposed to be.

November 23rd through December 13th is also the time that Mercury goes retrograde.  There couldn’t be a worse time for this as it’s holiday shopping season. Or maybe there couldn’t be a BETTER time!  In the recent past, holiday time has come to denote spending, spending, spending. In the end, where is the love in a dollar? Love can be found in hand-crafted items and in spending time with those that you care about. When Mercury is retrograde, you don’t want to purchase big ticket items (electronics, cars, etc.), and you don’t want to enter into contracts (Trust me on this. I entered into a contract on my book deal in August, and I’ve been paying for it ever since!). Continue reading »]]> This is the third installment in my new series where I complete a 4-card reading pertaining to the upcoming week’s world events. I then discuss the results in the following week’s reading.

Last week’s reading included an “extra” card that showed up. The 4 of Wands is celebrating freedom. I think this can be said for the elections that took place in Tunisia as well as the sense of relief and freedom that some Libyans felt with the capture and death of their former leader, Muammar Gaddafi. The 4 o f Wands is celebration for milestones and celebrating breaking free from unhealthy bonds that bind us to old ways of thinking, habits and relationships.  The 3 of Coins is the teamwork card, and proving that one is up to the task and working within an organization or group.  Coupled with the Queen of Coins, who represents an awakening to the material possibilities within our world, this is representative of the groups around the globe who are calling for economic change within their respective countries. Greece had over 100,000 people come out to protest their country’s austerity vote. One person died in the ensuing clashes. We all feel change, big change, coming. The difficulties and the speed of those changes is certainly represented by the Page of Swords (emotional struggle and strife) and the 8 of Wands (increased tempo and thing speeding up).

Material affairs are organized.  Secure but encountering a feeling of solitude.  Still seeking a purpose.  Looking for inner satisfaction and peace.  It’s possible for added income through unexpected gift, check or inheritance.

Continue reading »]]> This is a new series that I will be working on where I complete a 4-card reading pertaining to the upcoming week’s world events. We can then discuss the results in the following week’s reading.

Last week’s reading is pretty obvious (to me anyway). The King of Cups is the emotional actualization and impetus required to make changes within the world.  Coupled with The World, The Fool and the Knight of Coins at the foundation point:  Emotions and feeling running high enough to make financial and material changes by taking a step in a new direction. We don’t know how it will end up but there is an overwhelming belief that it’s a move in the “right” direction. We know things must change from the current state of affairs. I believe this all relates back to the Occupy movement. On Saturday, October 15th, 2011 there was a global day of Occupation. People are beginning to see the fabric of their material existence is tearing, and a veil is being lifted. I believe this veil is the blindness caused by money and the “power” people think is associated with it. The only power that money has is the power that WE choose to give it. Could global realization be on the horizon?

On to this week’s reading (apologetically posted late due to personal issues, but the reading was completed on Monday, October 17th). By the way, there was an “extra” card. When I cut the deck for the reading, the 4 of Wands was flipped backwards in the deck (odd). When this happens, I know it’s “extra information”, so I’m including it here.
