Responsible Procreation

Why are so many people on this planet? Why is our Earth being overrun and becoming overpopulated?
Ego, ignorance and general careless. People, more humans, are being created every single day in the name of these things. If we are indeed created in the image of a "god", I've become concerned that the god we're cloned after is an egomaniacal ignorant ass who really doesn't care about his/her children. Because as humans, that's exactly what we do. We procreate recklessly and carelessly.
While some bring new life into this world with much love, forethought and caring, most babies born into this world today are brought here because A) the "instinct" to mate and procreate B) pure "accident" brought about by an inability to control one's "natural instincts" to mate and then C) Just an "I don't give a damn" attitude.
A child's nurturing should begin preconception. Thought must be put into bringing new life into this world. "Am I bettering my world, my planet, my fellow human, by planning for this baby?" If the answer is "no", then the brakes (and a condom?) need to put on immediately.
I recently had a male friend complain to me that he just can’t help his “natural instinct” to have sex. I told him that pure bullsh*t. Energy CAN be channeled in whatever direction you wish. Granted, the root chakra is most certainly the easiest chakra to open, it’s very much the most difficult to control without proper training. But to turn away, give up and say, “I just can’t help myself” is a full on copout. Men (and women) can most certainly control their “primal urges” for the health and benefit of their bodies and their world.
This planet is most certainly overpopulated at this point and really can’t sustain the life that is bleeding her dry every single day. We are depleting our hostess and recklessly creating more life to do the same.
While the Catholic Pope, and others who strongly believe that birth control methods are not for the “devout”, may not agree with me I must respectfully state that His Holiness isn’t looking at the larger picture – our planet. Instead of chastising the followers of his faith for practicing birth control, maybe he should implement teachings that incorporate the practice of channeling energy through abstinence. It’s an “East meets West” philosophy, but if man is truly the ruler of all other animals, then he must spiritually rise above the temptations of the “natural instinct” and take a more universal perspective. It’s time that religion advances with the age and stops with the archaic, non-forward thinking ideas of what is right and wrong.
Bringing children into this world for selfish, or ignorant, reasons is not good for our world, and it’s certainly not good for the children.
In the end, our gut will reveal the Truth. And right now, my gut tells me that humans are overwhelming the planet. At this pace, she won’t last much longer.

Post Script (for the record): I am the mother of 3 teenagers. None of them were planned. That doesn't negate any amount of love that I have for them, and I certainly don't think of them as "mistakes". But with age (and that all-seeing 20/20 hindsight), I have come to realize the error of my all-too-human ways. I try to teach my children that reckless procreation, creating a child without wisdom and forethought, is disservice to the child, to themselves and to our planet. Once life is LIFE, it must be lived - but true knowledge is in learning our lessons, living by them and sharing them.
